How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Finite-budget Newton iteration for the nonsingular polar factor

Definition

Input a stored square complex matrix A∈Cn×n, n≥1, which is assumed nonsingular, a finite iteration budget N≥0, and finite Householder-QR controls including a nonnegative integer candidate-operation budget KH. Set the candidate X0=A. For k=0,…,N−1:

  1. Call Finite Householder QR solve for a Padé denominator with explicit statuses on Xk∗Y=I, passing KH to its instrumented kernel dispatcher. If it does not return verified-solution, return its failure status with the last candidate.
  2. Compute Xk+1=fl⁡((Xk+Y)/2) componentwise in the operationwise model of Operationwise real and complex floating point arithmetic with rounded square roots and fused multiply-add. A range failure returns range-failure with the last candidate.

After N completed steps, return XN with status budget-exhausted and the number of completed steps. The exact Newton sequence is analyzed separately; this procedure makes no forward-error or floating-point convergence claim.

15 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
