How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite precision point linear solve certificate with explicit status
Definition
Input , stored finite real or complex square data , , a proposed computed inverse , and a proposed computed solution . All stored entries are interpreted as exact dyadics. Use the operationwise arithmetic model with unit roundoff ; if , return inconclusive before applying the rounded-residual bounds. The procedure validates the proposals; it does not assume that the solver which produced them is stable.

Set . Evaluate each column of through the operationwise model as . If any operation returns range-failure, return
range-failurewith its first operation index. Compute an outward upper bound for , which by the rounded-linear-residual lemma bounds . Every dot product used for these allowances must complete successfully under the no-underflow model. Outward-evaluate and let be an outward upper bound for its Frobenius norm plus . -
Evaluate and . Compute an outward upper bound for , which bounds . Evaluate and compute an outward upper bound for , which bounds . Let be an outward upper bound for
The Frobenius norm bounds .
- All norm bounds, square roots, and final scalar operations are evaluated outward. If a bound cannot be enclosed finitely, return
inconclusive. If , returninconclusivewith the computed bounds. If , outward-compute and returncertifiedwith the Euclidean ball .
The output range-failure describes failure of a requested floating operation. inconclusive means only that this validation did not prove a usable bound; it does not assert that is singular or that the proposed solution is inaccurate.
Depends on
- Verified point and uniform linear residual certificate data
- A uniform approximate inverse and residual enclose every linear solution
- Rounded matrix products give certified linear and normal-equation residual allowances
- Operationwise real and complex floating point arithmetic with rounded square roots and fused multiply-add
- Real intervals, complex rectangles and ball enclosures
- Outward-rounded interval, rectangle and ball operations
- Outward-rounded operations are inclusion-isotone and enclose DAG evaluations
- Spectral and Frobenius norms are unitarily invariant, are given by singular values, and satisfy the sharp rank comparison
Used by
- Finite-budget exact or safeguarded inexact Newton-Kleinman policy iteration Algorithm
- Finite-budget structure-preserving doubling iteration for the DARE Algorithm
- Finite Riccati candidate, Newton-Kleinman, and doubling wrappers return a status Lemma
- The point linear solve certifier returns a sound solution ball on success Theorem
Dependency tree · two levels
28 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
