How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
First-row padding below the threshold is undefined
Statement refuted
Refuted claim: for every partition and every integer the displayed sequence is a partition of , so that the padded family and the padded Kronecker coefficient would be defined as soon as the size condition holds (First-row padding of a partition).
The witness is , of size and first part . For and the size condition holds, but the displayed sequences are and neither is a partition: the first has a nonpositive leading entry, and the second is not weakly decreasing. Only from the threshold on does the family become a family of partitions, starting with . Hence the padded sequence is undefined below the threshold, and for this shape the stable family begins at .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The partition and the integers (Partitions, English diagrams, and conjugation).
Read . For a partition and an integer one sets , except that ; this padding is a partition of . Below the threshold is undefined (First-row padding of a partition).
A partition of is a finite weakly decreasing sequence of positive integers with sum ; trailing zeros are not parts, so a displayed sequence that is not weakly decreasing, or that contains a nonpositive entry, is not a partition (Partitions, English diagrams, and conjugation).
has and , so its padding threshold is . [F1, given]
The size-indexed padded coefficient is defined exactly for ; below this common threshold it is undefined (Padded Kronecker coefficient sequences).
Counterexample
For the displayed sequence is . Its leading entry is not a positive integer and shows that the sequence is not weakly decreasing, so by [F2] it is not a partition of , although and hence holds.
For the displayed sequence is . Its entries are positive and sum to , but , so it is not weakly decreasing and by [F2] it is not a partition of , although holds.
For , which is the threshold computed in [F3], the displayed sequence is : the entries are positive, weakly decreasing and sum to , so it is a partition of . By [F1] the padding is defined, and by step 1.1 and step 1.2 it is the first member of the family; the threshold is therefore exact.
Consequently the refuted claim fails at and : the size condition is not enough, and the padded family of is a family of partitions only from on. Any padded Kronecker coefficient with and is likewise undefined, because one of its three entries is not a partition.
Remarks
-
The failed threshold is exactly weaker than the true one ; the extra term is what keeps the padded partition weakly decreasing, since the new first part must be at least the old first part .
-
The example also shows why the size-indexed padded Kronecker coefficients of Padded Kronecker coefficient sequences are defined only from the maximum of the three thresholds: a single unpadded entry makes the whole expression undefined.
