How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Matrix-step contractivity and the logarithmic norm in a specified inner product
Definition
Let be an integer and let be symmetric positive definite. Define the inner product and its vector norm on by
For , its induced operator norm is . A matrix step is contractive in this specified inner product when .
For , its logarithmic norm in the same inner product is
In the Euclidean inner product , write and . A real matrix is normal when and nonnormal otherwise.
For a rational stability function , the matrix step is defined only when is invertible; its contractivity is the separate condition .
