How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Second-order elliptic semijets and their value-sensitive closures

Definition

Let U⊆Rm be open, u:U→R, and z∈U. Write Sm for the real symmetric m by m matrices. The second-order elliptic superjet consists of pairs (p,X)∈Rm×Sm such that u(z+h)≤u(z)+p⋅h+12hTXh+o(∣h∣2)(h→0). Here the inequality means that its positive remainder divided by ∣h∣2 has limit zero. Denote this set by J2,+u(z). Define J2,−u(z)=−J2,+(−u)(z). The closed superjet J‾2,+u(z) consists of all limits (p,X) for which there are zn∈U and (pn,Xn)∈J2,+u(zn) satisfying (zn,u(zn),pn,Xn)⟶(z,u(z),p,X). Define J‾2,−u(z)=−J‾2,+(−u)(z). The value convergence is part of the definition. The same definitions work for functions allowed to equal −∞ away from the finite base point, with all approximating base values finite. A two-sided quadratic expansion means that both the upper and lower inequalities hold with the same (p,X); it is also called a second-order Peano expansion. Matrix order means X≤Y iff hTXh≤hTYh for every h.

For space-time z=(t,x) this is the full Euclidean jet, whose matrix also has time and mixed entries. No assertion about parabolic jets is included in this definition.
