How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Oriented interval meshes and broken polynomial spaces
Definition
Let and choose an integer and points The oriented interval mesh is the ordered family of cells , , each oriented from left to right. Write . For an integer , the broken polynomial space is with functions interpreted cell by cell. At an interior node , write for the trace from the left cell and for the trace from the right cell; the chosen face normal points from left to right, and the jump is . At and , the outward normals are and , respectively.
The published matching-affine-simplicial-mesh convention used elsewhere on the A page has dimension . This definition supplies the distinct one-dimensional interval and trace convention; it makes no assertion about multidimensional cells.
