How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Classical linear code over a finite field
Definition
Let be a finite field of order , let , and let be a linear subspace (Finite fields and their order, Vector space over a field, Linear subspace of a vector space). Put ; since has dimension , (The standard list with and for is an ordered basis of ; hence , and is the zero space with basis and dimension , If and is a linear subspace of , then is finite-dimensional, , and if and only if ). A classical linear code over with a specified encoding is the data , where is a linear isomorphism. Such an isomorphism exists because and finite-dimensional vector spaces of equal dimension are isomorphic (Two finite-dimensional vector spaces over are linearly isomorphic if and only if they have the same dimension). The field is part of the data: notation does not identify the field with ; that quotient is a field only when is prime.
If , then , , and the encoding is the unique map between these zero spaces. If an encoding is represented by a full-column-rank matrix , its image has dimension by A full-column-rank matrix has image dimension equal to its number of columns.
Remarks
The code is the linear subspace together with a declared message encoding. No field existence or uniqueness theorem is repeated here.
Depends on
- Two finite-dimensional vector spaces over $F$ are linearly isomorphic if and only if they have the same dimension
- Finite-dimensional vector space, and its dimension $\dim_F V$; infinite-dimensional means having no finite basis
- Finite fields and their order
- Linear subspace of a vector space
- Vector space over a field
- The standard list $e : n \to F^{n}$ with $e_i(i) = 1_F$ and $e_i(j) = 0_F$ for $j \ne i$ is an ordered basis of $F^{n}$; hence $\dim_F F^{n} = n$, and $F^{0}$ is the zero space with basis $\varnothing$ and dimension $0$
- If $\dim_F V = n$ and $U$ is a linear subspace of $V$, then $U$ is finite-dimensional, $\dim_F U \le n$, and $\dim_F U = n$ if and only if $U = V$
- A full-column-rank matrix has image dimension equal to its number of columns

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
