How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Freezing a varying slow waveform leaves a first-order coupling error
Example
Consider , , on , with and equal macro steps . The exact solution is , . The frozen-slow method Frozen-slow explicit Euler with fast microsteps has and , so its terminal error is . For any integer , set and instead update each midpoint-sampled block by and for . Then one macro update adds exactly , and this alternative gives the exact solution at every macro node for this model. This is a model-specific diagnostic, not a claim about any unverified symmetric composition.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The model, initial values, , and integer in the Example.
The frozen-slow algorithm sets and uses the original during its fast updates (Frozen-slow explicit Euler with fast microsteps).
Here , , and .
Proof
Direct integration gives and . By [F1] and [A1], induction on gives ; because is constant across a frozen block, . Starting with , summation gives , so the terminal error is .
Under midpoint sampling, the fast block increment is , since and . If , this increment gives ; with , induction proves exactness at every macro node.

Dependency tree · one level
1 result within one dependency step of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
