How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Half-size division preserves the discrete biomass budget
Example
Use the disjoint partition , whose last three cell centers are . Take , , , time step , and the half-size daughter kernel . Put mass in the cell centered at size and zero mass in the other cells. Verify one finite-volume division step and its number and weighted-size budget.
Verification
Given: The size-structured model, finite-volume update and exact discrete moment identities.
[F1] Size transport with a nonlocal division kernel: records daughter production and records removal of the dividing parent.
[F2] Finite-volume size transport with positive division quadrature: the mass update uses upwind flux, loss and nonnegative kernel coefficients.
[F3] Size characteristics, positivity, and discrete number and size-moment balances: the number and center-weighted-size balances include flux, total loss and kernel zeroth/first moments.
The parent center lies in the third cell and its daughters have size , exactly the second cell center. Thus the positive midpoint kernel quadrature gives and all other daughter coefficients for the occupied parent column vanish. The CFL number is in cell 1 and in each of cells 2–4, so the global maximum is .
The rightward internal flux from cell into is ; the absorbing boundary flux is . The daughter source is , and parent removal is . Therefore the updated cell masses are , , and , with ; they are all nonnegative.
The discrete number changes from to , an increase equal to . The weighted-size total changes from to . Formula [F3] gives the same increase from transport, while division contributes . Thus the first moment is conserved by division and changes only by the size-growth flux in this step.

Dependency tree · two levels
6 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
