How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

A smooth radial phantom and its sinogram

Example

Define η(u)=0 for u≤0 and η(u)=e−1/u for u>0, and put f(x)=η(1−∣x∣2) on R2. This is a nonzero, smooth, compactly supported radial phantom. Its Euclidean Radon transform is independent of θ and is Rf(θ,s)={∫−1−s21−s2η(1−s2−t2) dt,∣s∣<1,0,∣s∣≥1.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The function η and the radial phantom f in the Example.

[F1]

The Euclidean Radon transform on R²: Rf(θ,s)=∫Rf(sθ+tθ⊥) dt with θ∈S1 and θ⊥=(−θ2,θ1).

[F2]

A continuous real function on a compact Jordan measurable set is Riemann integrable over that set: continuous real functions on compact Jordan sets are Riemann integrable; use real and imaginary parts for complex integrands.

Verification

1.1givenalgebra

For u>0, repeated differentiation gives η(k)(u)=Pk(1/u)e−1/u for a polynomial Pk. For every integer m≥0, vme−v→0 as v→∞: if v>0, the exponential series gives ev≥vm+1/(m+1)!. Hence each right derivative tends to 0 at u=0, and the quotient η(k)(u)/u also tends to 0 because it is again a polynomial in 1/u times e−1/u. Induction on k shows the zero extension is smooth on R.

2.1givenstep 1.1algebra

The composition f(x)=η(1−∣x∣2) is smooth and radial; it vanishes whenever ∣x∣≥1 and is positive at x=0. Thus it is nonzero and has compact support in the closed unit disk.

3.1F1F2step 2.1∎

For every θ∈S1, orthogonality gives ∣sθ+tθ⊥∣2=s2+t2, so [F1] yields Rf(θ,s)=∫Rη(1−s2−t2) dt. If ∣s∣≥1, then 1−s2−t2≤0 for every t, so the line integral is 0; if ∣s∣<1, the integrand vanishes outside ∣t∣<1−s2 and equals the exponential displayed in the Example inside that interval, with value 0 at its endpoints because η(0)=0. It depends on θ only through the norm identity, so the sinogram is radial-data independent of orientation. The continuous compactly supported integrands are Riemann integrable by [F2].

Dependency tree · two levels

12 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
