How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
One staggered Fourier mode is removed exactly by pressure correction
Statement
Let be even, , , and use the staggered operators from Periodic staggered-grid velocity and pressure spaces. Put , so , and let . Start one step of Backward-Euler incremental pressure correction on a periodic staggered grid from , with Then the unique predictor is , the pressure increment is , and the corrected velocity is exactly . The pressure update is .
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The periodic staggered grid, even , the alternating cell pressure , positive , and the stated one-step data.
The staggered operators satisfy and is the negative componentwise periodic Laplacian (Periodic staggered-grid velocity and pressure spaces).
The predictor, pressure-increment equation and velocity/pressure updates are those in Backward-Euler incremental pressure correction on a periodic staggered grid.
Both solves are unique, the pressure increment is mean-zero, and the correction is exactly the discrete Helmholtz projection (Well-definedness of the periodic pressure-correction solves, Mass-orthogonal periodic discrete Helmholtz projection and exact incompressibility).
Proof
Since is even, has zero mean. The staggered gradient is not zero: . Also , so [F1] gives . Periodic summation shows both and have zero component means, hence the force is admissible.
Substituting and into the predictor equation [F2] gives , so uniqueness [F3] identifies it as the predictor. For the pressure equation, both sides have mean zero and [F3] gives .
The velocity update [F2] now gives , while the pressure update gives . This is exact one-step removal of the selected mode.
