How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A self-adjoint heat spectrum gives a long RKC1 stability step
Example
Consider the self-adjoint heat-mode matrix with one step of length . Compare one RKC1 step with explicit Euler stability on the same eigenmodes. This is only a stability-work comparison; it makes no accuracy claim.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The displayed real diagonal matrix, the step size, and the RKC1 and Euler stability results.
First-order stabilized explicit Runge–Kutta–Chebyshev step: RKC1 with stages has the scalar polynomial and uses stage evaluations.
RKC stability polynomials and certified negative-real intervals: for self-adjoint nonpositive , RKC1 is nonexpansive when ; its scalar real stability interval is .
Orders and scalar stability functions of Euler, midpoint, and classical RK4: explicit Euler has factor and negative-real stability interval .
Verification
The eigenvalues of are and , so and . For , the certified RKC1 bound is , hence the full step is stable on both eigenmodes and the matrix update is nonexpansive.
The corresponding RKC1 scalar arguments are and ; the latter maps to . The first-order recurrence uses eight stage evaluations for this step.
For Euler on the mode, one step of length has and factor , whose absolute value exceeds one. If Euler instead divides the same time interval into equal substeps, stability on that mode requires , hence . For , the Euler argument on the mode has magnitude , so both modes are stable. Thus the eight-stage RKC1 step uses fewer right-hand-side evaluations than stable Euler substepping for this spectrum, without implying comparable accuracy.

Dependency tree · two levels
21 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
