How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

SDA preserves PSD blocks exactly and exposes a finite-precision symmetry defect

Example

For one exact SDA step, take A=I2, G0=diag⁡(1,0), and H0=[1111].

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The matrices above and the recurrence in Finite-budget structure-preserving doubling iteration for the DARE.

[F1]

Finite-budget structure-preserving doubling iteration for the DARE: W=(I+GH)−1, G1=G+AWGA∗, and H1=H+A∗HWA.

[F2]

The DARE doubling recurrence composes two Riccati steps and preserves positive semidefiniteness: when G,H⪰0, the exact inverse exists and the updated G1,H1 remain positive semidefinite.

Proof

1.1F1F2givenalgebra

The inputs are positive semidefinite, and I+G0H0=[2101],W0=[12−1201]. Using [F1] gives A1=W0,G1=[32000],H1=[32323232]. Both updated symmetric blocks are positive semidefinite; G1 is diagonal PSD and H1=32(1,1)T(1,1).

2.1F1F2step 1.1algebra∎

To illustrate the diagnostic, perturb only one stored off-diagonal entry by ϵ>0 and report H~1=[3232+ϵ3232]. Its symmetry defect is ∥H~1−H~1∗∥F=2 ϵ. Even its symmetrization has determinant 94−(32+ϵ2)2<0, so this perturbed stored block is not positive semidefinite. It must be reported and rechecked rather than treated as covered by the exact-arithmetic PSD invariant.

Dependency tree · two levels

8 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
