How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

The first nonzero Ext shifts across a regular element

Statement

Let R be Noetherian, M a finite R-module, I an ideal, and x∈I an M-regular element with M/xM≠0. If d=min⁡{i:Ext⁡Ri(R/I,M)≠0}<∞, then the first nonzero Ext degree for M/xM is d−1.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The data and finite integer d in the statement.

Proof

technique · direct
1.1givenalgebra

Apply Ext⁡R(R/I,−) to 0→M→xM→M/xM→0. Multiplication by x on every Ext⁡Ri(R/I,M) is zero because x annihilates R/I. The long exact sequence therefore gives 0→Ext⁡Ri(R/I,M)→Ext⁡Ri(R/I,M/xM)→Ext⁡Ri+1(R/I,M)→0.

2.1step 1.1∎

For i<d−1 both outer groups vanish, while at i=d−1 the right-hand group is nonzero and the left-hand group is zero. This proves the shift.

Dependency tree · two levels

7 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
