How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The selected nodal ENO2 quadratic reconstructs the face to third order
Statement
Let , let , and let with . Form the nodal ENO2 value at by the rule in Finite-volume MUSCL, nodal ENO2 and WENO5 reconstruction conventions. Then The conclusion holds for either selected triple, so it includes the left-tie case.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: Uniform distinct nodes , nodal values from a C3 function, and the ENO2 selector and Newton quadratic.
Finite-volume MUSCL, nodal ENO2 and WENO5 reconstruction conventions: ENO2 compares the absolute divided differences on and , chooses the smaller (ties left), and evaluates the corresponding Newton quadratic at .
Existence and uniqueness of the cardinal-polynomial interpolant: for distinct real nodes, the data have a unique interpolating polynomial of degree at most the number of nodes minus one.
Pointwise Lagrange interpolation remainder: for three distinct nodes and , the quadratic interpolant error at a non-node is for some between the nodes and .
Proof
For either candidate triple , let and . The Newton polynomial in [F1] takes values and at the first two nodes. At , its value is , using the divided-difference definition. By [F2] it is the unique quadratic interpolant to that triple.
Apply [F3] to the left triple. The offsets from are , whose product has magnitude ; hence the error is at most . For the right triple the offsets are , with the same product magnitude, so it has the same bound.
The selector in [F1] returns one of those two quadratics, including the left one at a tie. Since both candidates satisfy the bound from step 1.2, whichever is selected satisfies it.

Dependency tree · two levels
17 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
