How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

The cubic Witt cocycle is a Lie-algebra two-cocycle

Statement

For the Witt algebra of Witt algebra of Laurent polynomial vector fields, define ω(dm,dn)=δm+n,0(m3−m)/12 and extend bilinearly. Then ω is alternating and satisfies ω([x,y],z)+ω([y,z],x)+ω([z,x],y)=0 for all x,y,z∈W.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The basis and bracket of the Laurent-polynomial Witt algebra.

[F1]

Witt algebra of Laurent polynomial vector fields: W has basis dm and [dm,dn]=(m−n)dm+n.

Proof

1.1F1algebra

The scalar m3−m is odd in m. Therefore ω(dn,dm)=−ω(dm,dn). If m=n, the Kronecker condition forces m=0, and 03−0=0; hence ω(dm,dm)=0. Bilinearity extends both identities to all finite sums.

2.1F1step 1.1algebra∎

By trilinearity it suffices to use dm,dn,dp. If m+n+p≠0, all three Kronecker factors vanish. If p=−m−n, twelve times the cyclic sum is N=(m−n)((m+n)3−(m+n))+(n−p)((n+p)3−(n+p))+(p−m)((p+m)3−(p+m)). The linear part is (m−n)p+(n−p)m+(p−m)n=0. The cubic part, after substituting p=−m−n, is (m−n)p3+(n−p)m3+(p−m)n3=−(m−n)(m+n)3+(m+2n)m3−(2m+n)n3=0, as expansion cancels the m4, m3n, mn3, and n4 terms. Thus N=0 in every case, proving the cocycle identity.

An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
