How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

The finite barycentric evaluator terminates with an explicit status

Statement

For every input tuple of Finite barycentric interpolation evaluator, the procedure terminates and returns one of its declared statuses. If it returns success, its value is an element of the supplied floating-point set F. The statement asserts no accuracy or forward-error bound.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: The finite arrays, query, and floating-point system supplied to the algorithm.

[F1]

Finite barycentric interpolation evaluator: the procedure loops over the finite index sets 0,…,n, each checked operation returns either an in-range rounded value or range_failure, and each detected failure branch returns immediately.

Proof

1.1givenF1

The procedure first checks the length of X and, if it is correct, scans its n+1 node candidates for membership in F and strict order; any failure returns invalid_nodes. If those checks pass, it checks the length of Y and, if it is correct, scans its n+1 data values and the query for membership; any failure returns invalid_data. These checks are finite. Otherwise the exact-node branch returns a data value in F. For an off-node query, the procedure next checks whether 1∈F: if not, it returns range_failure before initializing any arithmetic with 1; if so, it proceeds to weight construction.

2.1givenF1step 1.1

After the guard in step 1.1, 1∈F, so each initial dj=1 and each reciprocal numerator 1 is in the checked-operation domain. Every successful checked operation returns an element of F, preserving that domain for the next operation. Weight construction visits at most (n+1)n node pairs and performs finitely many such operations; any failure returns range_failure immediately, so this stage terminates.

3.1F1step 2.1

If weight construction completes, the evaluation loop starts with accumulators N=D=0∈F and visits at most n+1 terms. Every checked operation either returns a value in F or exits with range_failure. If the loop completes, a zero denominator returns range_failure; otherwise the checked final division either returns range_failure or returns success with a value in F.

These cases exhaust the procedure's branches and every loop is finite, so every input terminates with a declared status.

Dependency tree · two levels

4 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
