How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A vanishing Euler class does not imply contractibility of a Soergel complex
Statement refuted
A bounded complex of graded type-A Soergel bimodules whose alternating class in the split Grothendieck ring is zero must be contractible in the homotopy category.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: , , and the type-A Soergel category with unit bimodule .
Categorified braid-line model with an explicit realization boundary: is the unit object of , and bounded cochain complexes are considered in .
Split Grothendieck rings of the type-A Soergel categories: the split Grothendieck group identifies isomorphic objects and has ; the unit bimodule is a nonzero object.
Euler classes of Rouquier complexes are homotopy invariant and multiplicative: the Euler class of a bounded complex is .
Complexes, homotopies and contractibility in an additive category: a contracting homotopy satisfies in every cochain degree .
Take as unshifted graded -bimodules, , and all other terms and differentials zero. Compute cohomology in the abelian category of graded -bimodules (equivalently, graded modules over ), so .
Counterexample
The complex is bounded and its two nonzero terms are objects of . Its Euler class is by [F2] and [F3].
Since every differential is zero, and . Each is nonzero because is nonzero.
If were contractible, the equation of [F4] in degree would give , contradicting . Thus is not contractible although its Euler class vanishes, refuting the Statement.
Remarks
This counterexample is a general bounded complex in . It is not asserted to be a Rouquier complex for any braid, so it establishes no corresponding existence claim about the braid-indexed line operators.
