How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite box fails to cure point gravitational collapse
Statement refuted
A finite enclosing box by itself guarantees a finite canonical partition function for a two-particle Newtonian point-attraction model.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: In SI units, let with finite in metres. Let be positions, momenta in , a mass in , in , in , and a fixed action reference in . On , define the point Hamiltonian in joules by and its dimensionless canonical partition integral by , using product Lebesgue measure. The collision diagonal is excluded, with no positive minimum separation imposed.
For two equal positive masses and the stated point Hamiltonian in a bounded three-dimensional box with nonempty interior, the canonical partition integral with the dimensionless phase reference is infinite for every . (Point collapse and unscaled gravity nonextensivity, clause 1)
Counterexample
The box is bounded and has nonempty interior since each . The phase variables, two equal positive masses, point Hamiltonian and reference measure are exactly those of [F1]; no short-distance cutoff is imposed.
By [F1], for this finite box and every . This contradicts the refuted universal finiteness claim, so a finite outer box alone does not cure point collapse.
