How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
critical loci and values for Euclidean maps
Definition
Let and , let be open, and let . Here has the componentwise Euclidean meaning of and smooth maps between smooth manifolds. For each , is the total derivative: the linear map satisfying as in The total (Fréchet) derivative as the linear first-order approximation with remainder. The critical locus of is
The critical-value set is
A value outside this set is a regular value; in particular, a value with empty fibre is regular. This definition uses only the first derivative, so it applies to maps that need not be smooth.
When , the only open domains are and . On both sets are empty. On , the unique total derivative is zero and is not onto because , so the domain point is critical and its image is the critical-value set.
