How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Confidence sets and their coverage level

Definition

Let (S,S) be a measurable space, the data space (Measurable spaces and measurable sets), let Θ be a nonempty set, the parameter set, and let (Pθ)θ∈Θ be a family of probability measures on (S,S) (Probability measures and probability spaces). Write 2Θ for the power set of Θ. A confidence set for Θ is a map C:S⟶2Θ,s⟼C(s), such that for every θ∈Θ the set {s∈S:θ∈C(s)} is an element of S. The coverage of C at θ is γ(θ):=Pθ(θ∈C), and, for α∈[0,1], C has coverage level 1−α when inf⁡θ∈Θγ(θ)≥1−α.

Well-definedness and conventions

The measurability requirement is exactly what makes each γ(θ) defined, since {θ∈C} is then an event in S. The family {γ(θ):θ∈Θ} is nonempty and bounded below by 0, so its infimum exists in R by Every nonempty set bounded below has an infimum, is unique by Suprema and infima are unique, and equals inf⁡θγ(θ) as written (Greatest lower bound (infimum), Complete ordered field (least-upper-bound property)).

The level is a property of the family (Pθ)θ∈Θ and of the map C; it is an infimum of probabilities of the events θ∈C, calculated before the datum is observed. It contains no distribution on Θ and no conditional probability given the datum; a data-dependent reading requires further structure that is not part of this definition.
