How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Stationary-axisymmetric geometry and circularity domain
Definition
Let be a smooth, Hausdorff, second-countable, boundaryless, oriented and time-oriented Lorentzian four-manifold of signature , with smooth future timelike time-orientation field , and let be a nonempty connected open set. A stationary field on is a specified smooth Killing field that is timelike on a specified nonempty open subset of ; no normalization or global timelikeness is inferred.
Here with complex multiplication and the smooth circle-group structure fixed in Local potentials and smooth circle-bundle connection data. An axial action on is a specified smooth map satisfying and , with for every ; effective means that only acts identically on all of . Its generator is the smooth vector field defined by ; the parameter has period . Its axis is the fixed-point set . For this page, an axisymmetric region is a region supplied with such an effective action and satisfying on . A stationary field and axial generator commute when their Lie bracket vanishes; in coordinates this means for every component .

Because is Hausdorff, each fixed set is closed in : it is the preimage of the closed diagonal in under . Their intersection is closed, so is open. In a chart, linear independence is witnessed by a nonzero minor of the coordinate matrix with columns and , and nondegeneracy is for the continuous Gram matrix , where and . These are open conditions, so is open. On the matrix is invertible. Its inverse entries are smooth by the cofactor-over-determinant formula. The smooth map
is a projection onto , since it fixes each and is orthogonal to both generators. Therefore
is a smooth rank-two distribution on : the projection has rank two in each tangent space, and its kernel has dimension . The kernel varies smoothly because, locally, a nonzero two-by-two minor lets one solve its two linear equations smoothly for two components in terms of the other two.
An immersed surface through here means the image of a smooth immersion from a two-dimensional smooth manifold , with ; immersion means that is injective for every . Its tangent plane at is . Circularity on means that through every point of there is such a local immersed surface with at every point of its domain.
These are supplied geometric data and definitions. The specified smooth isometric action has smooth generator and flow . Differentiating at gives , so is an axial Killing field on under Killing fields of a Lorentzian metric. This axial field is additional data, not derived from . The definition does not assume that and commute or that is integrable. The set may be empty; no nonemptiness is assumed. No symmetry inheritance from matter equations, global smooth quotient or orbit-space boundary structure, or Einstein–Maxwell solution is asserted. Any use of the causal or horizon terms follows Causal solutions, Killing horizons, escape and metric extensions. A future spacetime theorem must state any extra asymptotic, horizon, axis-regularity, analyticity, connectedness and nondegeneracy hypotheses it uses.
