How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Weak time continuity and energy spaces

Definition

Let K∈{R,C}, let H be a Hilbert space over K, let X be a separable Hilbert space over K, and let T>0. Define Cw([0,T];H) to be the set of actual maps u:[0,T]→H such that t↦(u(t),h)H is continuous for every fixed h∈H; membership here is pointwise and is not an almost-everywhere equivalence class. A map u:(0,T)→X is strongly measurable if it is an almost-everywhere pointwise limit of measurable simple X-valued maps. For 1≤p<∞, Lp(0,T;X) consists of almost-everywhere equivalence classes of strongly measurable maps with ∫0T∥u(t)∥Xpdt<∞; L∞(0,T;X) consists of such classes with finite essential supremum norm. In this page, Llocp(0,∞;X) means membership on every finite interval (0,T). These conventions apply to any of the periodic spaces H,V,H−r and to the bounded-domain Hilbert spaces H,V whenever the target space X is separable.

If two maps in Cw([0,T];H) agree almost everywhere on (0,T), they agree at every t∈[0,T]. Consequently, a Bochner equivalence class has at most one weakly continuous representative; whenever it has one, all pointwise values associated with that class mean the values of this unique representative.

Facts & Assumptions

Given: Hilbert spaces H,X over R or C, with X separable, and a finite interval [0,T]. In applications, periodic H,V,H−r come from Periodic solenoidal Fourier spaces; the bounded-domain spaces H,V are those defined by Bounded no-slip solenoidal closure spaces and are separable under the Axiom of Choice by Countable smooth solenoidal basis for bounded closure spaces.

[F1]

Periodic solenoidal Fourier spaces: under Countable Choice, the periodic spaces H,V,H−r have the stated real Hilbert coefficient structures, with convergence of finite Fourier truncations in their respective weighted norms.

[F2]

Bounded no-slip solenoidal closure spaces and Countable smooth solenoidal basis for bounded closure spaces: under the Axiom of Choice, the bounded-domain spaces H,V are separable real Hilbert spaces.

The weak-continuity clause is the continuity of all scalar coordinate maps t↦(u(t),h)H and therefore defines a property of an actual map; it makes no assertion of norm continuity. The Bochner conditions, by contrast, are properties of almost-everywhere equivalence classes.

If u,v∈Cw([0,T];H) agree almost everywhere, then for each fixed h∈H the continuous scalar function t↦(u(t)−v(t),h)H vanishes almost everywhere. A continuous scalar function that is nonzero at any point is nonzero on a relative interval of positive measure, including at an endpoint, so this function vanishes everywhere. Taking h=u(t)−v(t) gives u(t)=v(t) for every t. Thus a weakly continuous representative, if it exists for a Bochner class, is unique.

Under the Countable Choice convention in [F1], the periodic targets are separable. Consider finite vector Fourier arrays with coefficients in Q+iQ, support in {∣k∣∞≤N} for an integer N, and conjugate symmetry; their associated real polynomials form a countable family. For H and V, apply Pk to each coefficient. This preserves conjugate symmetry and gives finite solenoidal arrays; P0=I retains the mean mode. Given a target field, first truncate its coefficient series in its target norm, then approximate the finitely many coefficients by rational real and imaginary coordinates with the opposite modes paired by conjugation. Since Pk is a contraction and fixes the target solenoidal coefficients, the projected rational approximants converge in the H or V norm. For the real H−r space, omit the projections: its definition as the weighted completion of finite conjugate-symmetric arrays gives the same density argument. Complex targets use the corresponding unpaired rational complex arrays. Thus every periodic target named here is separable; [F2] supplies the bounded-domain targets under its own Axiom of Choice hypothesis. Finally, Llocp is exactly the conjunction of the Bochner-class conditions over finite intervals. No stronger assumption on the abstract spaces in the Definition is needed.
