How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Tentative coframe, Cartan torsion and curvature, and the curvature residual of the dust reduction

Definition

Work in the reduction conventions of Dust reduction variables: signature flip, frame, connection, kinematics, comoving-parallel gauge and unknowns, with a smooth tentative frame (e0,e1,e2,e3), e0=U, dual coframe θi(ej)=δji and smooth metric-compatible tentative connection coefficients Γikj. The connection acts on every tensor index by the tensor product rule and annihilates γ; torsion-freeness is not assumed. A differential k-form is a smooth alternating covariant k-tensor. The wedge is its alternating tensor product, normalized so that for a p-form α and a q-form β, α∧β is the sum over (p,q) shuffles with their signs. The exterior derivative is specified, for smooth fields X0,…,Xk, by dα(X0,…,Xk)=∑a=0k(−1)aXa(α(X0,…,X^a,…,Xk))+∑a<b(−1)a+bα([Xa,Xb],X0,…,X^a,…,X^b,…,Xk). Here a hat deletes a slot, and the undeleted slots in the second sum retain their order. These definitions fix the local frame-coordinate calculus.

(a) Connection forms. The connection 1-forms are ωij:=Γkij θk, and the torsion 2-forms and curvature 2-forms are the Cartan expressions Θi:=dθi+ωij∧θj,Ωij:=dωij+ωik∧ωkj. Components are denoted Θi=12Θijkθj∧θk and similarly for Ω. The actual curvature uses the frame bracket in its component formula: Rijkl=∂kΓlij−∂lΓkij+ΓkimΓlmj−ΓlimΓkmj−Γmij [ek,el]m, not the antisymmetrized connection coefficients alone, precisely so that no torsion conclusion is assumed.

(b) Curvature residual. With the prescribed curvature Rpre of Schouten tensor, prescribed curvature, electric-magnetic Weyl variables and the reconstruction formula in the dust reduction the curvature residual 2-forms are Δij:=Ωij−12Rpre ijkl θk∧θl.

(c) Bianchi and matter residuals. Using the reconstructed C and prescribed S of Schouten tensor, prescribed curvature, electric-magnetic Weyl variables and the reconstruction formula in the dust reduction, define Fjkl:=∇i(Cijkl−δi[kSl]j),qj:=∇i(rUiUj),q:=U(r)+rχ, with brackets of weight 12. The full flux covector satisfies qj=qUj+r∇UUj, since ∇iUi=χ in the acceleration-free gauge. In particular q=0 and ∇UU=0 imply qj=0 even where r=0. This normalization uses the coefficient r of the source tensor and does not divide by r or κ.

(d) Zero quantities and reduced premises. Write Tijk:=Θi(ej,ek), also denoted Tijk when unambiguous; this torsion tensor is distinct from the stress-energy tensor. The zero quantities are z:=(Tijk, Δijkl, Fjkl, qj). The reduced transport equations impose only Ti0a=0 and Δij0a=0, and density transport imposes q=0; the gauge gives ∇UU=0. Weyl evolution imposes the symmetric spatial evolution projections of F. The reduced evolution does not itself impose every component of z=0. The subsidiary theorem propagates the remaining zero quantities from constrained initial data.

For vector-valued forms define Dωα=dα+ω∧α; for an endomorphism-valued k-form define Dωα=dα+ω∧α−(−1)kα∧ω, with matrix multiplication of endomorphism indices. These conventions specify the Cartan identities used in Subsidiary system of the dust reduction: Cartan identities, closed homogeneous residual system and vanishing of the residuals.
