How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Immersion of schemes
Definition
A morphism of schemes is an immersion, also called a locally closed immersion, if there exist an open subscheme (Open immersions of schemes) and a closed immersion (Closed immersions of schemes) with . A factorization is a device exhibiting , not extra data attached to it: whether is an immersion is a property of the morphism alone, and closed immersions () and open immersions (with an isomorphism onto ) are immersions.
For such a factorization the image is closed in the open subscheme , hence is a locally closed subset of , and identifies with a closed subscheme of ; one says that carries the induced locally closed subscheme structure on that image. Since is a homeomorphism onto , the induced structure is unchanged when the ambient open subscheme is replaced by a smaller one containing , so the property may be checked after restricting the target to any open subscheme containing the image.
