How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Graded bracket of Lie-algebra-valued differential forms
Definition
Let be a smooth manifold and a finite-dimensional real Lie algebra. For homogeneous and , define their graded bracket by
Here is the space of smooth alternating -linear forms with values in , the inner bracket is the Lie-algebra bracket, and the sum is over all permutations. This is a smooth -valued -form. It obeys graded skew-symmetry , graded Jacobi
and the exterior-derivative rule
In particular, for -valued 1-forms , , so . This fixes the normalization used by the Cartan curvature formula.

Proof
Choose a finite basis of with dual basis , and write , , where and are smooth scalar forms. Expanding the alternating permutation sum gives ; this finite sum is smooth and alternating, hence is in .
Swapping the two blocks of and arguments in the defining permutation sum contributes the sign ; antisymmetry of the inner Lie bracket contributes the minus sign. Therefore .
In the finite basis expansion of step 1.1, apply the scalar graded derivation rule [F3] to each and retain the fixed coefficient . Summing the resulting finite terms gives .
For homogeneous , the same basis expansion writes with coefficient and form factor . The right-hand terms have coefficients and, after commuting past using [F4], , with the same form factor. The equality of coefficients is exactly the Lie-algebra Jacobi identity in [F1], so the graded Jacobi formula follows.
If , all forms and brackets are zero; if or , the same formulas use the empty wedge with sign . The finite basis in step 1.1 is one finite-dimensional coordinate calculation, not a choice from a family. The definition and identities hold on the empty manifold as well.
