How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Observer energy, spatial momentum, invariant mass, rest energy and kinetic energy of a four-momentum
Definition
Throughout, is the oriented time-oriented affine Minkowski model of Oriented time-oriented affine Minkowski space (the spacetime primitives), , and is future unit timelike, (Lorentz forms of inertia (3,1,0) on a 4-dimensional real vector space, Time orientation, future and past timelike/null/causal vectors, and the closed cones). Write for the rest space of , for the rest projection and for the norm on (Norms of four-velocity and four-acceleration, and the observer rest-space decomposition,(c)); recall from that clause that is linear with image and kernel , that , and that the restriction of to is positive definite.
(a) Observer energy, spatial momentum and invariant mass. For every in the future closed cone define
and, when is nonzero future causal, define the invariant mass of by
Then , , and
is the unique decomposition of as a real multiple of plus a vector of : a vector has with and if and only if and . Equivalently, and are the unique pair consisting of a real number and a vector of with that property. The pair is the restriction to of the pair of linear maps and on . For future null the formula for gives , because .
(b) Rest-mass parameter, rest energy and kinetic energy. Let and let with future timelike and , the four-velocity normalisation of Four-velocity and four-acceleration of a future timelike worldline. Then call the rest-mass parameter of as written, its rest energy, and
its kinetic energy relative to the observer . Bilinearity gives , so is determined by . Thus is a function of on the future timelike cone; recording supplies no independent parameter.
(c) No positivity, inequality or measurement claim. This definition claims no positivity of , no inequality or vanishing property of , and no physical measurement. The names observer energy, spatial momentum, invariant mass, rest energy and kinetic energy, and the units joule, kilogram metre per second and kilogram, belong to the unit conventions of SI units and coordinate conventions of the special-relativity framework and to the physical postulates of this framework; the mathematical content asserted here is only the explicit dependence of the five quantities on , and .
(d) What the objects depend on. and are functions of the pair : is an element of the vector space , not a coordinate triple, and no basis of enters its definition, while uses the Lorentz form alone. depends on the scalar alone and hence on no observer and no basis; uses the rest mass fixed by that scalar. No choice principle is used.
