How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Rectangular local-equilibrium field data

Physical scope

Smooth local-equilibrium continuum data on a fixed three-dimensional Euclidean rectangle; this definition adopts no balance law or constitutive law.

Definition

Let I⊆R be an open interval measured in seconds, let L1,L2,L3>0 be lengths in metres, and set Ω=∏i=13(0,Li)⊆R3 with closure Ω‾. A rectangular local-equilibrium field record consists of an open temperature interval T⊂(0,∞), a temperature field T:Ω‾×I→T whose time derivative through order one and spatial derivatives through order two extend continuously to Ω‾×I, a function u∈C1(T,R) of internal-energy density in J m−3, and its volumetric heat capacity c(T):=u′(T)>0 in J m−3 K−1. The coordinates xi are lengths in metres, and T is measured in kelvins, using SI quantities and unit conventions.

The record may also include a thermal-energy flux-density field jQ:Ω‾×I→R3 with components in W m−2 and a conductivity field K:Ω‾×T→R3×3 with entries in W m−1 K−1. For any unit vector n, jQ⋅n is the signed thermal-energy transfer rate per unit area in direction n, positive when energy flows along n. The flux and tensor are field data here; no relation between them is imposed by this Definition. In Euclidean coordinates, ∇T=(∂x1T,∂x2T,∂x3T). The classical divergence div⁡jQ(x,t):=∑i=13∂xi(jQ)i(x,t) is defined at interior points where these three partial derivatives exist. No spatial differentiability of an optional flux is assumed here; any balance or result using its divergence throughout a domain must impose the needed regularity. On a flat face, n denotes its outward unit normal.

This is a specified regular field class on a fixed rigid body. It does not assert that every physical medium has local-equilibrium fields, nor does it adopt a heat equation, a boundary condition, Fourier's law, or an entropy-production law.

Remarks

The label “local-equilibrium field record” names this model's field class; it is not a claim about microscopic equilibration.
