How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Regular single-species elastic collision data

Physical scope

A three-dimensional single-species classical kinetic collision model with elastic binary events; no hard-sphere limit or microscopic derivation is included.

Definition

Fix a particle mass mp>0 in kilograms and velocity space V=R3 with components in m s−1. The elastic collision set is Qel={(v,w,v′,w′)∈V4:v+w=v′+w′, ∣v∣2+∣w∣2=∣v′∣2+∣w′∣2}. Thus each allowed event conserves momentum mp(v+w) and kinetic energy mp(∣v∣2+∣w∣2)/2. Equip Qel with the Borel sets generated by its relative topology.

Collision-rate data consist of a nonnegative, countably additive, σ-finite Borel measure ν on these Borel sets. It is invariant under exchanging v with w, exchanging v′ with w′, and exchanging the incoming pair (v,w) with the outgoing pair (v′,w′): for each of these maps S and Borel set E, ν(S−1E)=ν(E). This is the three-dimensional physical restriction of the collision set and exchange conventions in Elastic collision model and weak collision identity, with σ-finiteness stated explicitly for the product integrals used by the entropy theorem. For physical applications of that weak identity, at a fixed position and time let f:V→(0,∞) be the one-particle number density per spatial volume and velocity volume: f(v) d3v is number per spatial volume in the velocity element. Particle number is dimensionless, d3v has units m3 s−3, and f has units s3 m−6. A collision term Qν(f), when a representative satisfying the absolutely convergent weak identity exists, has units s2 m−6, namely f per second. Test functions φ:V→R are measurable and have one common unit Uφ for their values (dimensionless for the tests 1 and log⁡(f/fref), where fref>0 has the units of f). Assign the measure ν itself units m9 s−7: its numerical values are taken in these SI units, not as a density relative to an unstated measure on Qel. Thus ∫VφQν(f) d3v and the collision integral of f2 times the test bracket both have units Uφ m−3 s−1. The magnitude and distribution of ν remain model inputs; dimensional consistency fixes neither a numerical collision rate nor existence of Qν(f). The measure is a declared model input; no differential cross section or microscopic limit is inferred from this Definition.
