How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
A non-invertible defect on a three-site Ising ring
An exact finite three-site periodic quantum Ising chain at the zero-field self-dual coupling, with an eight-dimensional Hilbert space; no infinite-volume, continuum, or empirical claim is made.
Example
Let with orthonormal basis , and define and . Use periodic indices and the finite Hamiltonian , where has energy units and . Euclidean propagation through is . Define from this ring to its half-shifted dual by
and use the supplier's reflection identification , , to set . Its complete admissible defect-bearing correlators are exactly the finite decorated tensor contractions, ordinary insertions and external boundary tensors of the supplier at ; allowed slides keep the rest of that complete input fixed. Let and . The defect inserted on a Euclidean time slice is topological under the declared slides within gaps of fixed insertions, satisfies , and annihilates after two fusions. Therefore this exact finite-model defect is non-invertible. No continuum or empirical claim is made.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Adopt the three-site Hilbert space, Hamiltonian, original-to-dual kernel and reflection identification, Euclidean transfer model and global spin flip in the Example. The defect line is inserted only in a gap that contains no other insertion.
Finite-lattice realization of the Ising non-invertible defect: for every finite periodic length in the stated model, is topological under the declared slides and .
Verification
The vector is nonzero because and are distinct orthonormal basis vectors. The global spin flip exchanges them, so .
By [F1] at , . If had a two-sided inverse, then would be invertible and could not annihilate the nonzero vector ; thus the defect is non-invertible. Its topologicality in every allowed gap follows from the same exact finite transfer-model result.
