How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Worked fluid symbol: eigenvalues of the principal matrix for the radiation equation of state at an explicit timelike covector
Example
Take the smooth barotropic equation of state , , , at any state . Then on and (so ) and at a point choose a rest frame with spatial frame and the future-directed timelike covector (in the notation , , so ). This example computes the matrix of The barotropic fluid equations in enthalpy form are symmetric hyperbolic with positive principal symbol and verifies its eigenvalues and positive definiteness explicitly.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: the radiation equation of state on and a state , the rest frame and the covector , for which and .
The principal symbol of the fluid system in the variables at a covector is the symmetric matrix (The barotropic fluid equations in enthalpy form are symmetric hyperbolic with positive principal symbol clause (b)).
for the radiation equation of state (The barotropic enthalpy variable r(epsilon): definition, strict monotonicity and the symmetric form of the fluid equations). [L2]
Verification
(The matrix.) By [L1], [L2] and the chosen data, .
(Eigenvalues.) The upper-left block has eigenvalues ; the remaining block is the identity with eigenvalue (multiplicity two). All three eigenvalues are positive: because .
(Consistency with the general criterion.) The general criterion of [L1] gives positivity because and ; the explicit smallest eigenvalue matches exactly the lower bound from that criterion.
