How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Existence and uniqueness of adapted coordinates, and the affine structure of simultaneous slices
Statement
Let and an adapted chart be as in Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts.
- Every has exactly one pair with
so the adapted-coordinate map of that definition is well defined, and it is a bijection.
- For every the simultaneous slice is an affine space modelled on , and for one has with and
- For every set of data and fixed orientation of satisfying Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts, at least one adapted chart exists. No origin, time vector or spatial basis is distinguished by this existence assertion.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The data of Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts: a real four-dimensional vector space , a surjective linear map , of dimension , an inner product on , a nonempty affine space modelled on , and a fixed orientation of . For clauses 1 and 2, also a given adapted chart ; for clause 1 any , and for clause 2 any and . Clause 3 assumes only the raw data and orientation.
carries the free transitive -action recorded in Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts: every pair has a unique displacement with , and displacements satisfy and , the latter two being consequences of the action axioms and uniqueness of displacements (Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts).
is linear and surjective, , and the chart vector satisfies (Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts, Kernel and image of a linear map, Linear map between vector spaces over the same field).
For the given chart in clauses 1 and 2, is an ordered -orthonormal basis of : every has a unique expansion , and (Orthogonal vectors and subspaces, orthogonal and orthonormal sets, and orthonormal bases, Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts).
Every finite-dimensional real inner-product space has an orthonormal basis (Every finite-dimensional real or complex inner product space has an orthonormal basis). Here has dimension and is an inner product, as in Affine time space with Euclidean simultaneous slices and adapted charts.
An orientation is an equivalence class of ordered bases under positive-determinant changes of basis. In positive dimension there are exactly two classes, and interchanging two entries of an ordered basis gives a change of basis with determinant (Orientation of a finite-dimensional real vector space).
Proof
For every the vector lies in , because by linearity [L2]. Hence with , so .
Suppose with and . Applying gives since and ; then . Hence every has exactly one decomposition , and .
Fix . The event lies in , because , so is nonempty. For and one has , so ; the action of on so defined is associative, and it is free and transitive because displacements in are displacements in and lie in : if then , so and with the displacement unique in and hence in [L1, L2]. Thus is an affine space modelled on .
Let and put , the unique displacement vector of [L1]. By steps 1.1 and 2.1 there are unique and with ; by [L3] there is a unique with . Hence is the unique pair with , and the map is well defined. The assignment is a left and right inverse of by the defining property of the action [L1]; hence is a bijection onto . This proves clause 1.
For the coordinate expressions and have by definition of , so subtracting the two displays and using [L1] gives . By [L3], , so . This proves clause 2.
Choose , possible because is nonempty, and choose with , possible because is surjective. By [L4], choose an ordered -orthonormal basis of . If it belongs to the fixed orientation class, put ; otherwise put . The interchange preserves the basis property and all identities , and its determinant is by [L5], so it changes the orientation class. Since there are exactly two classes, the resulting basis is positively oriented. Thus is an adapted chart, proving clause 3. These are finitely many existential choices, not a selection from an arbitrary family.
