How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Two-sided Hoeffding bound for Bernoulli frequencies
Statement
Let , , and let be measurable on a probability space with Here and , including and . Thus the variables have the stated independent Bernoulli product law. For their frequency and every ,
No axiom of choice is assumed.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: , , and the finite Bernoulli product law in the Statement.
For each tuple in , its probability is the product of the one-coordinate probabilities and .
The Hoeffding MGF bound for a variable in a unit interval: if is measurable with almost surely, then for every real ; its proof does not assume choice.
Proof
Summing the product law [A1] over the other coordinates gives , so . Put . By [F1], for every real . Expanding the finite expectation over and using [A1] factors it into the product of these expectations. Hence .
For , implies . For any nonnegative and , , so . Apply this to and then step 1.1 to get . Setting gives .
Apply the same argument to , using step 1.1 at ; it gives . The union bound follows from , so adding the two tails proves the claim. Endpoints are included by [A1]: then every almost surely and the left side is zero for .
