How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Nonzero eigenfunctions annihilate equivariant BM on their nonvanishing loci
Statement
Let act algebraically on a separated finite-type complex variety with a finite invariant affine open cover. Let be one affine chart, let be regular with a nontrivial character , and fix the convention . If is nonempty, then the equivariant character class acts by zero on every group . It also acts by zero on every such group for a further -invariant open subvariety . Consequently for all .

Proof
Given: The data in the Statement.
The set is -invariant because . On its Borel construction, define in the associated character line. This is well-defined: replacing by replaces by , exactly the right equivalence . Since never vanishes on , is a nowhere-zero section and trivializes that line bundle. The same formula trivializes its restriction to every -invariant open . To ensure the preceding definition applies to , write . Its coordinate ring is graded by the character lattice , and the ideal of the invariant closed complement is homogeneous. For each , choose with ; a homogeneous component also satisfies . The principal open is invariant, affine, contains , and lies in . Since is noetherian, its open subset is quasi-compact, so finitely many such principal opens cover . Thus has a finite invariant affine cover.
On each finite Borel approximation, the first Chern class of the trivialized line is zero. By [F2] this is the Euler class of the line, and by [F3] its cap action on the approximating Borel–Moore groups is zero. The stable comparison in [F1] therefore gives for every , and the identical argument holds on .
Since is nontrivial, is invertible after localization. For any class , its localized image satisfies by step 2.1. Every homogeneous fraction is , so the localized total modules, and hence all their degree pieces, vanish on both and . If the opposite character convention is used, the class is , which is also in up to the unit and has the same annihilation consequence.
