How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Euler identity for a differentiable degree-one homogeneous function
Statement
Let be open and be . Suppose that for every there is a nondegenerate interval containing such that and for every . Here nondegenerate means that contains a point different from ; may be an endpoint. Then
The radial identity need only hold on one side of : openness of and regularity supply an ambient derivative, and the interval makes a nonisolated point at which that derivative is determined by the radial identity. This uses the same function on the same domain; it asserts nothing about a family of functions on different tagged domains.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The open domain , the function , and for each the stated radial homogeneity on a nondegenerate interval containing .
The chain rule for total derivatives: : If and are totally differentiable at the relevant points, then .
Proof
Fix . Openness of and continuity of give an open interval around with for . Define by . By [F1], . This ambient derivative exists even if is an endpoint of the interval on which homogeneity is assumed.
Since is a nondegenerate interval containing , it contains points arbitrarily close to , also lying in . For these points, homogeneity and give . The ambient derivative in step 1.1 exists, so its limit along this possibly one-sided set is . Therefore , and writing the total derivative in Euclidean coordinates gives .
