How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite ground-state degeneracy entropy limit
Statement
Let be a finite nonempty set, take the canonical model Countable canonical model on , and let its energies be and positive weights be . Write , let have cardinality , and set . As , each ground-state probability tends to and each excited-state probability tends to zero. The Shannon entropy tends to . In particular, if all , the ground-state probabilities tend to and the entropy tends to . This is a finite-model statement only.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: As stated in the item.
is finite and nonempty, the parameter interval is , for every , , is nonempty, and every gap for is positive.
Countable canonical model: finite canonical weights are with natural logarithms.
The real exponential function and the number by a power series, The natural logarithm as the inverse of the exponential function, and Order, continuity, range, and the product, quotient, and reciprocal laws for the natural logarithm: exponential is positive; logarithms convert products to sums and are continuous on positive reals.
The exponential dominates every fixed nonnegative integer power at : for every fixed .
Proof
Given: A finite energy list with ground energy , degeneracy , and positive gaps for all other states.
Set , so factoring the ground energy gives . Each gap is positive, and there are finitely many, so . Thus for , and for .
For , step 1.1 and continuity of on give . For an excited state with gap , step 1.1 gives and ; since , is bounded, so by [F3]. There are finitely many states, hence the entropy tends to the stated ground-state entropy. If all , then and the limit is .
