How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite-budget indirect shooting for an interior-control ODE optimality system
Definition
This procedure is restricted to a smooth, unconstrained-interior control branch. Let the smooth data be those of Finite-horizon ODE optimal-control transcription data, with no active path or endpoint constraints apart from the prescribed initial state. Any optional inequality constraints must remain strictly inactive throughout the branch; additional endpoint equalities or active endpoint inequalities require an augmented boundary residual and are outside this procedure. Let . Supply a pointwise-defined twice continuously differentiable feedback on an open tube such that and throughout that tube; differentiability uses the convention of Euclidean maps and diffeomorphisms. Every successful IVP evaluation must keep its trajectory in this tube. If the evaluator cannot certify that condition for a queried trajectory, return inadmissible-interior-branch with no shooting result. Define , with the derivative taken holding fixed, and only then substitute . Define and
where and .
The indirect shooting procedure takes a certified differentiable IVP evaluator for , an initial trial , residual tolerance , and correction cap , and calls Finite-budget single shooting for a nonlinear two-point BVP on the square BVP . It returns that algorithm's trajectory and status without changing the root-tolerance meaning. In particular, root-tolerance-met certifies only the computed boundary residual for the numerical IVP map; it is not an exact BVP, optimality, global-optimality, or discretization-error certificate. If the control is on a boundary or no such smooth feedback is supplied, this procedure is inapplicable.
