How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite-budget coupled backward Euler for an index-one DAE
Definition
Input , a constant grid with and , an initial pair , and a selected open tube inside the local branch chart of A regular index-one DAE has a local reduced ODE branch, where is equivalent to . For each time , write for the open state slice used as the Newton evaluation domain. Also input positive residual tolerances , a finite Newton-correction budget , and an initial algebraic-residual bound . Return invalid-grid if or , and invalid-input for incompatible dimensions, data outside the function domains, or . Compute the starting algebraic residual once; return inconsistent-initial-data if .
For , form the coupled equation residual
and the scaled square residual
Use as the Newton seed. Before calling Newton, if , return invalid-trial with the already computed prefix. Otherwise call Finite-budget Newton for a square vector residual on with residual tolerance , budget , and as its evaluation domain. If the returned status is root and the candidate lies in , reevaluate once to retain both unscaled residuals, then append the candidate. Otherwise return the corresponding singular-Jacobian, invalid-trial, or iteration-budget-exhausted status and the already computed prefix. The input functions are defined on the selected tube, so no separate evaluation-failure branch is needed. If every step is accepted, return completed and the state sequence.
For recording, define the derivative residual and the algebraic residual . root means only that the scaled residual tolerance was met; it does not assert an exact zero, uniqueness, Newton convergence from an arbitrary seed, or a discretization error bound.
Use the coupled -dimensional residual and its current block Jacobian. Record residual queries, Jacobian assemblies and correction solves separately; backend costs are not specified.

Dependency tree · two levels
13 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
