How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Finite-budget coupled constant-step BDF2 for an index-one DAE
Definition
Input , a constant grid with and , two starting pairs , and a selected open tube inside the local branch chart of A regular index-one DAE has a local reduced ODE branch, where is equivalent to . For each time , write for the open state slice used as the Newton evaluation domain. Also input positive residual tolerances , a finite Newton-correction budget , and two starting algebraic-residual bounds . Return invalid-grid for a nonpositive step or fewer than two starting states, and invalid-input for incompatible dimensions, data outside the function domains, or for either . Compute for both ; if for either start, return inconsistent-initial-data.
For , form
and
Use as the Newton seed. Before calling Newton, if , return invalid-trial with the computed prefix. Otherwise call Finite-budget Newton for a square vector residual on with tolerance , budget , and as the evaluation domain. Append a candidate only when Newton reports root and the candidate lies in ; reevaluate once to record its unscaled residual blocks. Otherwise return the corresponding singular-Jacobian, invalid-trial, or iteration-budget-exhausted status with the computed prefix. The input functions are defined on the selected tube, so no separate evaluation-failure branch is needed. If all steps are accepted, return completed and the state sequence .
For an accepted step, the constant-step BDF2 derivative residual is
and the algebraic residual is . The procedure makes no claim that Newton finds a root or that an accepted state is the exact selected branch root.
Use the coupled -dimensional residual and its current block Jacobian. Record residual queries, Jacobian assemblies and correction solves separately; backend costs are not specified.

- Variable-step BDF2 with an explicit local implicit-branch rule
- Quadratic interpolation gives the variable-step BDF2 formula and cubic residual
- Implicit residuals and their update and derivative units

16 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
