How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Randomized weighted majority with full information

Definition

Let k,T be positive integers, let η>0, and let [k]={1,…,k}. The input also supplies a full-information loss process: before the round-t action draw, its vector ℓt∈[0,1]k is fixed using only the previous transcript and any external randomness, and the vector is revealed after the draw. Put Ht=([k]×[0,1]k)t−1, with H1={()}, and give Ht its power-set sigma-algebra; these histories have finite length but need not be finite sets. Initialize w1,j=1 for each j∈[k]. At round t, given ht−1=((as,ℓs))s<t, compute pt,j=wt,j∑r=1kwt,r. Draw at=j with probability pt,j, observe the entire vector ℓt, and update wt+1,j=wt,jexp⁡(−ηℓt(j)). Equivalently, the conditional action kernel is Kt(ht−1,A)=∑j∈Apt,j for each A⊆[k]. The action draw uses fresh randomness independent of the loss process, so its conditional law given the past and the already fixed current loss vector is Kt. Return the action transcript (a1,…,aT).

Verification

Given: The hypotheses and procedure in the Definition.

1.1givenF1constructinduction

By induction on t, each wt,j is finite and strictly positive: this holds initially since w1,j=1, and each update multiplies such a weight by the finite positive number exp⁡(−ηℓt(j)) from [F1]. Since [k] is finite and nonempty, Zt:=∑r=1kwt,r is finite and strictly positive, so every pt,j is defined and nonnegative.

2.1F2F3F4step 1.1algebra∎

The finite sum of the action probabilities is ∑j=1kpt,j=Zt/Zt=1. For each history h, define μth(A)=∑j∈Apt,j(h) for A⊆[k]. This is countably additive because a pairwise disjoint family of subsets of the finite set [k] has only finitely many nonempty members, and μth([k])=1. For each event A, the map h↦μth(A) is measurable since Ht has its power-set sigma-algebra. Hence Kt is a probability kernel by [F3] and [F4].

Source notes

This is the full-information finite-action procedure. Its regret and privacy claims are proved separately; this definition alone makes no regret or privacy assertion.

17 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
