How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Dual revised simplex with a finite pivot budget

Definition

Input the exact standard-form data and a basis B for which every nonbasic reduced cost is nonnegative, as in Revised simplex standard-form linear program and Basis dictionaries and reduced costs for revised simplex. Also input a nonnegative integer pivot budget K. Set k=0 and repeat:

  1. Compute xB=AB−1b and y=AB−TcB. If xB≥0, return optimal with the primal basic vector and y.
  2. Otherwise choose the least-index basic variable Bi with xBi<0. For each nonbasic j compute dij=(AB−1aj)i. If no dij<0, return infeasible with q=AB−Tei.
  3. If k=K, return pivot-budget-exhausted with the current basis and multiplier y=AB−TcB.
  4. Among j with dij<0, choose one minimizing cˉj/(−dij), with least variable index among ties. Replace Bi by j, set k←k+1, and repeat.

The pivot-budget-exhausted status is inconclusive. No finite-success or anti-cycling claim is part of this definition.

2 results within one dependency step of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
