How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Omitting tau can move an exact fine root
Statement refuted
The claim that replacing the tau-corrected coarse right side by the restricted fine right side always preserves an exact fine-grid root is false.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The two-dimensional fine residual with , right side , prolongation , iterate restriction , residual restriction , and rediscretized coarse residual .
Finite-budget nonlinear FAS two-grid cycle: the FAS coarse right side includes and the prolongated update is .
An exact fine root is fixed by the FAS V/W cycle: with the tau-corrected right side and the selected zero-defect coarse root, an exact fine root is fixed.
Counterexample
Set . Then , so is an exact fine root. Its restriction is and the restricted right side is .
With tau omitted, the coarse equation is , whose exact solution is . The fine correction is which is not . Thus the false claim fails for this SPD fine system and this specified rediscretized coarse operator.
For the same inputs, the correct tau is , so the tau-corrected coarse right side is and its selected root is . The resulting correction is zero, in accord with [F2].

Dependency tree · two levels
3 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
