How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
The endpoints do not determine intermediate pages
Statement refuted
The false claim is that specifying the isomorphism class of the total homology of a bounded filtered chain complex determines the isomorphism class of its early spectral-sequence pages. More strongly, the false claim is that two filtered complexes with isomorphic total homology must have isomorphic pages.

Facts & Assumptions
Given: Chain complexes over with an increasing finite filtration preserved by the differential.
A filtered chain complex has (Filtered chain complex).
For the spectral sequence of an increasing filtered chain complex, is the associated graded with its filtration-preserving differential, and is the homology of (Homological spectral sequence, The next page is the homology of the current page).
A finite filtration converges to the associated graded of total homology (Bounded filtered complex spectral sequence abuts to filtered homology).
Proof
Let be the one-generator complex in chain degree , with and filtration degree . Let have generators in degree and in degree , differential , , and filtration , , . In both complexes preserves the filtration, so [F1] applies.
In , because the differential is zero. In , the associated graded has basis in filtration and in filtration ; its is zero because strictly lowers filtration. Therefore has dimension . The differential sends the class of to the class of and sends to zero, so ; likewise .
The total homology of is . In , the pair is contractible and the remaining class is , so . The pair by itself has zero total homology but nonzero , with its killing both classes.
By step 2.1, while , so their pages cannot be isomorphic even though their total homology groups agree by step 2.2. Convergence [F3] identifies only the limiting page with the associated graded of the shared total homology; it does not determine the earlier pages. Thus the stated endpoint-only claim is false.

17 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
