How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Nadaraya–Watson bias from design gradients and boundaries
Statement refuted
Symmetry of the kernel alone makes the population Nadaraya–Watson smoother reproduce every affine regression function exactly in the interior and keeps its bias of order at a support boundary.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The two models below and , which is symmetric, nonnegative, normalized, and has .
Under its stated interior hypotheses, Pointwise population bias of the Nadaraya–Watson smoother identifies the population smoother by the kernel-weighted ratio and gives the interior expansion used in step 1.1.
The regression target is a chosen version of . Regression target and chosen version.
A density defines the measure by . The measure with density relative to .
In the interior model, on and . Choose the regular conditional law for every , giving the pointwise version ; also .
In the boundary model, is uniform on , , and the prediction point is the support boundary . Choose the regular conditional law for every , giving the pointwise version .
AC is inherited through the chosen versions of the regression target The Axiom of Choice; the finite integrations use no choice.
Counterexample
In the interior model, and . Evenness gives , while . Hence the denominator is and the numerator is , so their ratio is . The planned interior formula gives the same nonzero design-gradient term .
In the boundary model, define the population kernel-weighted response mean by . By [A2] and [F3], it equals . Here exactly for and is zero for ; hence the denominator is and the numerator is , yielding .
The first ratio is not despite affine , and the second has a nonzero coefficient of , not . Both contradict the refuted assertion.

Dependency tree · two levels
10 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
