How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
An open action set need not contain a posterior-risk minimizer
Statement refuted
Every posterior expected-loss function on a nonempty open action space attains its infimum.
Facts & Assumptions
Given: The singleton prior, singleton observation, open action interval, and loss in the Counterexample.
A probability measure on a singleton assigns mass one to its point (Probability measures and probability spaces).
Risk is the nonnegative integral of loss (Loss functions and risk).
A posterior is a regular conditional distribution (Regular conditional distribution).
The Bayes-rule theorem assumes a measurable posterior minimizer is attained (A posterior-risk minimizer minimizes prior risk).
Counterexample
Given: A one-point parameter space with prior mass one, a one-point data space with sampling mass one, the open action interval , and loss .
The prior and data law are point masses on singleton standard-Borel spaces by [F1]; their joint law is the point mass on the singleton pair. Define the posterior to be the point mass at . The only conditioning events are empty or the whole singleton, and the conditional-law identity holds for both, so this is a regular conditional law by [F3]. Integrating against it gives posterior risk by [F2].
For every , , while the sequence lies in and has . Thus and the infimum is not attained. The claimed universal minimizer does not exist, which refutes the statement and illustrates the explicit existence premise in [F4].

Dependency tree · two levels
30 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
