How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Encoded diagram size and exact output
Definition
Let be a nonempty finite regular oriented link diagram: a smooth immersion of a finite union of oriented circles into the plane with finitely many transverse double points, no triple points, and one overpassing branch specified at each double point. Let be its number of crossings and its number of components. An arc is a connected strand segment cut at each undercrossing; each component with no undercrossings contributes one closed arc. Write for the number of arcs. If components have no undercrossings, then and .
A supplied finite code for has code length , the total number of bits in that literal code, including its tags, signs, labels, and separators. The length depends on the chosen encoding. In particular, for one of the tagged Gauss, signed Dowker–Thistlethwaite, or oriented planar-diagram formats, is the bit length of the supplied valid code in that format. The procedures in this page take typed mathematical diagrams or valid codes as stated; no string parser or malformed-code behavior is included in any operation count.
For an integer , define its signed-magnitude bit length by and for . For a Laurent polynomial with finite support, define its coefficient-bit size as if , and otherwise as . Its absolute Laurent degree is , with value for . For a prime , elements of are represented exactly by residues , and their representation uses bits.
An exact output is the complete integer, finite list, or Laurent polynomial with its integer coefficients and exponents. A floating-point approximation is not an exact output. A field-operation count treats each addition, subtraction, multiplication, division by a nonzero element, and equality test in as one operation; this convention does not assert that these operations have constant bit cost as varies.

9 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
