How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Federated objectives and client sampling

Definition

Let N,d≥1, let each client i∈{1,…,N} have a positive integer sample count ni, and put n=∑i=1Nni. For differentiable client objectives Fi:Rd→R, the sample-count-weighted deployment objective is fwt(w)=∑i=1NninFi(w). For differentiable client objectives fi:Rd→R, the equal-client objective is f(w)=1N∑i=1Nfi(w). The symbols Fi and fi denote separate families; they are not identified unless an application states Fi=fi. In general, fwt and f are different objectives.

For integers 1≤S≤N, a uniform fixed-size client sample is a random subset S⊆{1,…,N} of cardinality S for which every S-element subset has probability (NS)−1. This is sampling without replacement. When several communication rounds are used, the sampled subsets are independent across rounds unless a theorem states a different sampling law.
