How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Local SGD with periodic synchronization

Definition

Let n,d,K,T,b,m be positive integers, let fj:Rd→R be differentiable for 1≤j≤n, and define f(x)=n−1∑j=1nfj(x). The inputs are a starting point x0∈Rd, positive step sizes η0,…,ηT−1, and integer synchronization times 0<t1<⋯<tm=T,IT={t1,…,tm}. Set t0=0 and H=max⁡1≤j≤m(tj−tj−1). Initialize x0k=x0 for each worker k∈{1,…,K}. For each t=0,…,T−1, each worker k and each within-step draw q=1,…,b, draw it,qk uniformly from {1,…,n}, with all draws mutually independent, and form gtk(x)=1b∑q=1b∇fit,qk(x),zt+1k=xtk−ηtgtk(xtk). For b=1 this is a single stochastic gradient. If t+1∉IT, set xt+1k=zt+1k for every worker. If t+1∈IT, set xt+1k=1K∑ℓ=1Kzt+1ℓfor every k. The procedure returns the worker trajectories (xtk)0≤t≤T, 1≤k≤K. The common initialization at time 0 is included when measuring the largest synchronization gap, and a convergence statement must specify any particular average or iterate it analyzes.

Dependency tree · two levels

4 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
