How statement and proof provenance work

The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.

  • Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
  • AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
  • AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.

These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.

Finite partially observable Markov decision process

Definition

Let S be a finite nonempty set of hidden states, A a finite nonempty action set available in every state, and Ω a finite nonempty observation set. Give these sets their power-set sigma-algebras. A finite POMDP with known model consists of a finite reward alphabet R⊆R and a joint probability mass p(s′,ρ∣s,a) on S×R for each (s,a)∈S×A, an observation probability distribution O(⋅∣s′) on Ω for each s′∈S, and an initial belief b0:S→[0,1] with ∑s∈Sb0(s)=1. Put

T(s′∣s,a)=∑ρ∈Rp(s′,ρ∣s,a),r(s,a)=∑s′∈S∑ρ∈Rρ p(s′,ρ∣s,a).

At decision time t, write St∈S for the hidden state, At∈A for the chosen action, Rt∈R for the realized reward, and Ot+1∈Ω for the next observation. Conditional on St=s and At=a, the joint law of next state St+1=s′, reward Rt=ρ, and observation Ot+1=o is p(s′,ρ∣s,a)O(o∣s′). Thus the observation depends only on the next state and is not an additional observation of the reward. A policy uses only the past actions and observations; realized rewards are not included in its history. For a horizon H∈N and discount γ∈[0,1], the objective is to maximize E[∑t=0H−1γtRt]. The model is known; learning its transition, reward, or observation laws is outside this definition.

14 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
