How statement and proof provenance work
The first chip identifies the source of the statement or construction; the second identifies the source of its local proof or verification.
- Literature-sourced: the exact statement appears in a cited source; only wording and notation differ.
- AI-adapted: a semantically identical restatement of literature-sourced material, modulo indexing, notation, and boundary cases adopted by the library.
- AI-generated: a genuinely novel statement formulated by AI, with no source for the claim itself.
These labels describe origin, not correctness: citations and verification chips remain separate evidence.
Deterministic Gács–Körner common part and Wyner common information
Definition
Let have a joint probability vector on finite nonempty alphabets . Its support bipartite graph has left vertices with , right vertices with , and an edge exactly when . Let be the finite nonempty set of connected components. Define and to be the component containing the corresponding vertex when that vertex has positive marginal mass; assign any fixed component label to zero-mass symbols, which do not affect the law of the random labels. Along every support edge the two labels agree, so define the finite random variable almost surely. If almost surely for any other finite-valued deterministic common output, then along every support edge; equality propagates along graph paths, so both functions are constant on each component and the common output is a function of . Thus is the maximal deterministic common part up to relabeling. Its finite entropy is the deterministic Gács–Körner common information, using Finite distributions, entropy, divergence, and stochastic matrices.
A finite auxiliary random variable is Wyner-admissible for when a joint law has -marginal and, for every with , The finite-alphabet Wyner common information is where mutual information and natural-log units are as in Finite mutual information and Information units and logarithm-base convention. The Gács–Körner object is a deterministic common output of both terminals; Wyner's quantity optimizes mutual information over an auxiliary variable that makes the terminals conditionally independent. They are distinct definitions. This page does not identify them or use either as a Slepian–Wolf rate coordinate.
The admissible class is nonempty: is finite and makes each positive-mass conditional joint law a product of point masses. Hence the infimum is over a nonempty set of finite real mutual informations.

9 results within two dependency steps of this one, each drawn at its shortest distance from it. An arrow runs from a result to what uses it, so the chart reads left to right and ends at this result, which carries a heavier outline. Every node is a link to that result.
